Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! This year I've set a goal of raising $1000 for Sibling Connections, a non-profit that I whole-heartedly support.
Sibling Connections reunites children who, because of a placement in foster care, are separated from their brothers and sisters. Unfortunately, sibling separation tends to be the rule--nearly three out of every four children in foster care are separated from at least one of their siblings. Too often these children--many who have already been the victims of abuse--move from home to home without ever experiencing a stable, loving family relationship. Tragically, when they "age out" of the system around their 18th birthday, the majority face illegal drug use, emotional disturbances, incarceration, unemployment, homelessness, or a combination of these.
This shameful story doesn't have to continue, and you DON"T have to become a foster parent in order to help change it! Programs throughout the country are emerging to ensure that children in foster care remain connected with their brothers and sisters. Sibling Connections is a model among these organizations because it not only provides an annual reunion (in the form of a week-long summer camp), but also coordinates monthly activity days (called "Sibling Sundays") so that siblings can reconnect on a more frequent basis. With extremely low indirect spending and only one paid employee, Sibling Connections also trains a corps of volunteers who work with the sensitive needs of children in foster care and advocate on their behalf.
Please join me in supporting Sibling Connections with a donation to "Team Christopher." You can easily donate directly through this website or by mailing me a check made out to "Sibling Connections, Inc." (please email me if you need the address). Either way, the full amount of your donation is tax deductible.
Large or small, your support means so much to me. Thank you!
-Christopher
P.S.-- If you live in the New England area or want to spend a week in the beautiful Berkshire mountains this August, please let me know. We still have a couple of remaining spots for male counselor volunteers. It's a challenging but immensely rewarding week of camp fires, swimming, hiking, horseback riding and fun that will, I guarantee, be a highlight of your year!
