The Hiding Place was birthed out of a meeting between the Founder, Bart Pierce, when he encountered a young women who was about to have an abortion. Rev. Pierce had talked her out of the abortion, but the girl then said to him, "Okay I am not going to get an abortion, what the h*** are you going to do to help me through this?" Rev. Pierce was stunned, not because of the young ladies response, but because he did not have a solution at that time to her need. From that moment, he realized he cannot just speak against abortion, but he must help these women in need. He stopped picketing local clinics, and made a decision to open a home to help women in need.
In 1986, He purchased the first house through his church, Rock City Church. He placed a family in the program to run the house and developed a plan to assist women in crisis. The organization now sits on 9 acres of property behind the Rock City Church and is committed to offering various services, housing, and general needs to women in crisis. The program received its 501c3 status as a charitable organization in 1995.
