Christopher Von Seggern's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am excited to be running the 114th Annual Boston Marathon on April 19, 2010.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Childhood obesity is increasing in the United States at an alarming rate. Many kids are spending less time being active and more time sedentary in front of TVs and computers. This disturbing trend has had a direct impact on my wife’s and my respective careers. I went on to earn my PhD at Johns Hopkins University where I participated in metabolic research. I then spent time at the NIH, working in the office of the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases. Childhood obesity is a leading contributor to the rapidly growing population of patients with type 2 diabetes, and it is not uncommon to see signs of the disease in children as young as 8. Diabetes and obesity prevention and reduction has been a focus of Chrissy’s career and she became a nurse practitioner with these motivating interests. She spent a year working at the Joslin Diabetes Center and during that time she worked closely with overweight children and teens, counseling them on the importance of daily exercise. She now works with patients of all ages helping them stay active. We both recognize the importance of improving the health and well-being of children, and we are committed to helping in any way we can.
CYCLE Kids provides a tangible program to increase the activity level of local children, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to help raise funds to further the mission of the organization. I have always viewed the challenge of running a marathon as one of the most difficult tasks a person can undertake, and in particular, the Boston marathon represents an ideal opportunity given its prominence in the community and its place in history as the oldest marathon in the country. Your support will help me reach my goal and will help CYCLE Kids further the organization's important mission.
Many thanks for your support -- and please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
