“Mzungo Mzungo how are you”, the village children chanted as they ran down the jungles muddy path to greet us. The answer, “I am fine”.
The answer to the question is so very simple, or so it would seem. Yet for many African Children the answer, “I am fine” is so far from the truth. An immeasurable amount of Africans are plagued by AIDS. They face many other hard ships including: malaria, malnutrition, lack of education, clean water and an extremely limited chance of obtaining job security to provide for their families. Simply put many Africans are fighting for survival.
You have a chance to alleviate this pain and hardship. In September ( 18th-19th), Team Wazungo will do the Crowders Mountain Endurance Challenge.
The challenge will go like this:
Difficulty level: Intermediate to difficult. Requires good endurance and physical fitness.
Friday night we will drive up to the event location and set up camp. Since it will be late, we will be car camping.
Saturday we will hike a series of trails throughout Crowders Mountain State Park. There are two trails with varying difficulty levels: one series of trails is 10 miles while the intermediate trail is 5 miles.
The challenge comes in after we have exerted most of our energy on a tedious hike. Once we have completed the hike, we will harness up, and pick a rope to one of the 4 or 5 climbing routes already set up. The climbs will vary in difficulty level, ranging from 5.6 to 5.10. How difficult of a climb can you top out on after a Crowders Mountain Hike.
Sunday will be a day of climbing, exploring and relaxing on the rocks.
