I am a stage IV melanoma survivor! My initial Stage 1 diagnosis in 2009 seemed to be nothing much to worry about, but the disease returned in early 2011 and has now progressed to Stage IV. I am currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. I missed the opportuity to join a clinical trial, but I am hoping I will get enough of a response from my treatments to join another one soon.
Even though they haven't found the cure yet, there are so many new treatments emerging for melanoma right now. I'm lucky to have benefited from these new drugs, but we have to keep the ball rolling!
I have created team Melanomore! to participate in the Melanoma Research Foundation 5k Run/Walk at Universal Studios. My experience with melanoma has taught me that there is a lack of education and understanding about this very serious disease, and sun safety in general. Joining my team or donating will help raise awareness and support research.
This is a family-friendly event and the walk will take us through the famous backlot of Universal Studios! Please consider walking with team Melanomore! or making a donation to this cause that is so important to me, my support group, and so many others who are struggling with this disease.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate or walk with us!
