Laugh in the Face of Cancer
Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting my web page. I am participating as a “Face of Gilda’s” in a campaign geared toward increasing awareness for cancer in young adults and raising funds to support Gilda’s Club Western PA. The inaugural campaign is called; A New Generation: Today’s Faces of Gilda’s Club. The campaign starts in celebration of young cancer survivor week on April 4th, 2009 and culminates in a comedy event on September 17, 2009 at The Improv called “Laugh in the Face of Cancer.” For more info go to www.gildasclubwesternpa.org
My life was first touched by cancer on March 5th, 2007 when I was diagnosed with colon cancer at the ripe old age of 36. Four days later, I underwent surgery to remove 10” inches of my colon and received 24 bi-weekly treatments of chemotherapy as part of a clinical trial. I am blessed, very fortunate and proud to say that I am going on two years of cancer freedom….medically speaking! This brings me, and you, to why you are here:
I continue to receive free social & emotional support through Gilda’s Club by joining the group called “Living with Cancer in Your 20’s & 30’s.” It is a fantastic group of people made up exclusively young adults affected by cancer. In the two years I have been attending, I have met some of the most amazing and inspirational fellow survivors, who to continue to be a huge support network at Gilda’s and socially. I would be remiss if I did not mention the selflessness and kindness of the Gilda’s family and volunteers as being an integral part of my support network as well.
Gilda’s is a free for anyone touched by cancer, not just young adults; it is my desire, with your help, to give back to the cancer community here in Pittsburgh. All proceeds go to Gilda’s Club locally here in Pittsburgh. By donating here and/or attending the comedy event (who doesn’t want to laugh) this is a unique opportunity for you as a supporter to see how your generosity will be honored first hand. Your donations from this web page will be presented by the “Faces” (me and others) to the Gilda’s Club director at the comedy event on September 17th.
I can not understate how important it is for me and other cancer survivors to have this type of support network. So, please give generously and help me reach my goal.
