Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
My name is Claire Heid and from July 16-18, 2012, I will be competing in the Badwater Ultramarathon, arguably the toughest ultramarathon in the world. As a First Lieutenant currently stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA and a West Point graduate (Class of 2010), I'm honored to be running to raise money for such an amazing organization as Team Red, White, and Blue (Team RWB)!
I started running ultramarathons in October of 2008. In February of 2008, I completed a tryout at West Point to be send to a very challenging military development school that summer. When I was not selected to be sent to the school, I looked at the people who were and I found marathon runners, ultramarathon runners, and triathletes. Having never run farther than about 8 miles in my life, I signed up for a 50k. After that race was over, I didn't stop. The following fall I ran a 50 miler and a few months after that I ran a 100k. Within two years of running my first ultramarathon, I ran my first 100 miler race in Arkansas. Since I began running ultramarathons, Badwater has been my goal. I started running ultramarathons because I wasn't strong enough to do something that I wanted to do, and now I want to be challenged by running the toughest race there is.
Running this race, however, is not just for me. Team RWB is an organization designed to help wounded veterans reintegrate into society after they have completed their service and sacrifice to their country. When so many Soldiers today have numerous combat tours, this reintegration is no easy process, but Team RWB is there to help and provide the support they need. Serving one's country is an honorable feat, and supporting those who have served means so much.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Any amount that you can give will help me achieve this goal. Thank you in advance for your support!
