We are sending this plea out very quickly as time is of the essence here. We were notified this afternoon of a 2 year old male German Shepherd at a county shelter who needed immediate medical attention.
Below is the email that we received from a county animal shelter:
"We have a 2yr old Male german shepherd here that needs a rescue exit. This dog appears to have gotten into some poison possibly and has been bleeding pretty bad through his abdomen. Our vet has done some heroic life saving efforts on him and would desperately like to see him go to a rescue recover and find a home. I have included a copy of his medical history with his photo, please let us know if you may be able to exit him, he does still need to go to the vet. If we do not get a rescue by 5pm 5/21/10 then we will unfortunately have to euthanize him. Please call if you are interested".
Even though we have had so many medical cases recently, we could not say no to this beautiful boy. We put the wheels in motion and got him out of the shelter and into the hands of an emergency vet hospital.
We just got the initial estimate and we are looking at $2500 for the first 48 hours. This is without him needing expensive plasma transfusions and other life saving measures that he may need.
His story is that of SO many of our dogs.....found by animal control running as a stray in a rural area. Covered in ticks and so very skinny. No identification, no collar or microchip. When he arrived at the shelter they noticed he was bleeeding internally. The shelter vet stabilized him until he could be rescued. Now that he is at our vet, we are running the diagnostics to rule out trauma, tick borne disease, rat poisioning, etc. We should know more as the night goes on.
We need your help to get Corey the care he needs tonight and tomorrow. We know he deserves to be saved and we know we can do it! We just need a little help. Corey is a young dog will a full life ahead of him---lets show his that life he so deserves!
Can you help us today?
We will post updates here as the night goes on. Thank you for your support!
Update 5/21 early am: Corey has stayed stable through the night. The lab work is still pending and we are waiting for those results.
Update 5/22: Corey is not out of the woods yet. Please continue to network this page and send good thoughts toward Corey. The tests that have come back have been negative and we still have no real answer as to what is ailing Corey. Clinically, he is doing much better-eating and drinking on his own. As of now, we are hoping that one of the last tests comes back with an answer to what is ailing Corey. Corey's vet bills are mounting and we have already hit $4000. Please continue to help us raise the funds necessary to continue his care.
UPDATE!!!! 6/4/10
Corey is doing fantastic! He is thriving in a foster home and is filling out. We still do not have any answers as to what happened to him. We know that he was near dead and now seems to have fully recovered! Yippie!! We are assuming that he was poisoned by something at some point in time before we rescued him. HUGE thanks to all that helped save his life!
