Introduction

My goal in creating this page was to provide a place for further education and support for the fight against Pulmonary Hypertension (PH).

Diagnosed just two years ago on January 2, 2008, I began a fight against an invisible and deadly disease. You can read my story of diagnosis here: http://www.phassociation.org/Page.aspx?pid=655&chid=1

With no cure yet available, but much hope that one will come, I have commited to being an active participant in both fundraising and awarenes. I can not just sit around and wait for my miracle to come - I have to be a part of making it happen, not only for myself, but for many others too. To that end, here is an exciting opportunity!

The Backstory

A few months ago I was honored to be asked by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association to be on their patient advisory board for young adults. One of the most exciting things about this job is our e-mail group called Generation Hope - we are actively recruiting young adults to a safe place to discuss the ups and downs of life with PH - thriving, not just surviving. I am so proud to be a member and be finally pro-actively doing something about PH. We as a group have decided to contribute our collective efforts towards a really exciting national and even global opportunity... a virtual unity walk.

Much like a traditional walk for a cure, participants pledge to walk a certain distance and commit a certain amount of money. The difference here is this will be a virtual walk - you will all do it from the comfort of your own space, anywhere you might be. Here's how it will work...

The Goal We Will Support

This February, pulmonary hypertension specialists Dr. Ray Benza and Dr. Robert Frantz, along with Jessica Lazar, P.A., will climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, to raise global awareness of PH. In addition to reaching the mountain's 19,330-ft summit on February 26, 2010, the physicians' fundamental goal is to raise $100,000 to support PH research and programs that serve PH patient and medical communities. What You Can Do

Walk for those who can't walk far themselves!

Participating in this virtual Unity Walk is simple. Just pledge the distance you'll walk (around your neighborhood, a local park, or even inside your office -- no distance is too small!) on February 26, the same day Drs. Benza and Frantz plan to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Make a donation below, and be sure to include the distance you'll be walking in the comments field.
