2009 is officially the "Year of the Gorilla."  As a fellow primate, with similar facial expressions, actions and other evolutionary attributes, you should feel compelled by this effort to raise awareness and funds for the conservation and protection of gorillas as a species.  Conservation comes in many ways and varies by the organizations, places and species involved.  Not everyone knows what to do to help keep these species, places and all of the wonderful natural resources they provide to us humans alive.  If you don't have the time to donate or the initiatives to put into action, please motivate the people who do, and provide any monetary donation you can.  With the funds they need, they can place programs into action.  Such programs include the assistance of the government and local communities effected.  They provide education, training and initiatives to act as seen fit.  These include training rangers to track groups of gorillas to monitor their movement in the wild, health and interactions with changes that may be occuring in their natural habitat.  These rangers and other groups also remove snares set for either the gorillas themselves or other animals so people can illegally sell their body parts and meat.  These become livelihoods for some people in third world countries where they may not know any other way of survival and with the proper education and others to show them the way they can utilize the beauty of nature they are surrounded by instead of destroying it.  By donating to  Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International not only would you be helping a species in dire need, you would be helping the ecosytem they live within and improving the overall health of the entire planet.
