MARRIAGE EQUALITY NEW YORK

MENY's 6th Annual Wedding March

Corey Phillips's Fundraising Page

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

Over the past year, I have been involved in LGBT activism with a group called Civil Rights Front, an all inclusive, direct action group working towards marriage equality and full civil rights for the LGBTQ community through creative and peaceful actions.  We believe true equality can be achieved by educating people about the challenges we face; organizing our community and allies; and encouraging our government to change discriminatory legislation. We hope to bring LGBTQ organizations, leaders, supporters, and community members together to ensure that a strong and unified voice is heard.

Recent actions include organizing volunteers and marshals for several rallies in the New York area (including a response to CA's Prop 8, the New York State Senate's pending vote on marriage equality, a trip to Albany for Equality and Justice Day, and Broadway Impact's Action = Marriage Equality Rally in Midtown Manhattan); a phone bank for marriage equality (in collaboration with Broadway Impact and Human Rights Campaign); Broadway Impact's letter writing campaign to Senator Malcolm Smith, including work at the Defying Inequality Benefit Concert on Broadway (which raised $400,000 for various marriage equality organizations); and New York City's Pride Parade, where we reached out to over 1,500 people. Civil Rights Front recently received the Spirit of Stonewall Award from Heritage of Pride for its grassroots contributions to the LGBT community.

I am currently in the process of raising money to fund my bus trip and hotel room for the National Equality March in Washington, D.C. on October 10 and 11. The goal of this march is to bridge the gap between the national organizations and the grassroots community organizers in our continuing effort to attain equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states, something the 14th Amendment to the Constitution clearly states. It forbids states from denying any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of its laws." By directly mentioning the role of the states, the 14th Amendment greatly expanded the protection of civil rights to all Americans.

If there is anything you can do to help with the costs, it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount will help. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Marriage Equality New York's 6th Annual Wedding March and Civil Rights Front have joined together to organize all accomodations for this event. More information on their organization can be found at the link to the left.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

Warmest Regards,

Corey Phillips
