Helping Kids Read through First Book
From Saturday, April 9th @ 8:00 a.m. EST until Sunday, April 10th @ 7:59 a.m. EST, I'm participating in Dewey's Read-a-thon. For 24 hours straight, I'll be reading, blogging about my reading progress, and participating in reading challenges. Why?
1. Because I love reading.
2. Because I can. In the United States, 42 million adults can't read. 50 million adults are limited to a 4th or 5th grade reading level or can only recognize a few printed words. Worldwide, one in five adults is still not literate and two-thirds of them are women.
I cannot imagine life without the joys that reading has brought since a very early age.
Through this Read-a-Thon, I hope to raise money that will go toward First Book, giving low-income children the opportunity to read and own their first new books! For more information on First Book, please click on the tab above marked NonProfit
Please support me in this challenge and donate so others may read!
And I welcome you to follow me on my Read-a-thon blogging.
