Corrie Reed's Fundraising Page
From my first professional job in Adaptive Recreation to my current position in teaching Special Olympics has always been a large part of my life. This summer I was touched while serving on the Regions Volunteer Awards Committee. There was a young man up for athlete of the year and one part of his story really stands out to me, which I have shared with our HSU volunteers and will do here as well. Here at HSU we encourage our students to be involved with the communtiy and to give back. Because of my ties to Special Olympics many of our HSU students also give back to this organization. This young man who was up for an award really stood out to me as he is who my students are now helping, however he in turn was helping out others less fortunate than him! He was a Special Olympian helping out others in need. This completely changed my view on volunteering- we are always thinking who can I help, what can I do for them, and what an honor to know that maybe, just maybe, when we help out one person, they will in turn find someone in need of help and pay it forward too!
No matter what holds us back in one aspect of our life, we can always find someone else to help out by some means, you just have to find it.
