Courtney Monaco's Fundraising Page
Since witnessing the battle that my wonderful aunt, Barbara Bemiss, ultimately lost with a tenacious glioblastoma in May 2009, my world has been rocked. I decided I needed to do something for myself to help me grieve. But I wanted to do something that would help others dealing with brain tumors in the process. My Auntie Babs probably never knew it but she was a role model who inspired me as well as others; to be a better person, to be a treasured friend (as she was to so many) and to have a generous soul. These are still a work in progress for me but she had them mastered.
I set a goal to run (and hopefully finish) this year's Boston marathon. I was lucky enough to score a corporate bib number (since clearly I could not qualify as an entrant on my own!) During my research about this form of brain tumor, I came across an amazing young man named Will, his wonderful support system of family and friends and their drive to cure brain cancer.
Will is a talented long distance runner and was diagnosed with a malignant glioma in 2007. His love of running and life completely inspired me to go after my goal. You must read about Will, his accomplishments and his story at www.willpowerresearchfund.com He is phenomenal. Unfortunately, many of you may know someone in your own life that has been touched by this form of cancer. We need to help the drive to find a cure.
The notion that I am really doing my first marathon is coming to fruition, the training is becoming more exciting (if that makes sense?), I'm still injury free and I am not backing out. Now, I want to make sure that I help this cause in any way by fundraising for a cure for brain cancer. Every little bit helps. All of the proceeds to this cause go directly to research.
I am going to do it because I am able.
All my best to you,
Courtney
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
