What is the HD Walk for the Cure?
The HD Walk for the Cure is the largest awareness and fundraising event to benefit Huntington’s Disease research and families in Orange County. The Orange County Affiliate is the only local support group for the hundreds of families suffering from HD in Orange County. The monies raised through this family-friendly event go directly to our wonderful researchers who work with HDSA’s Coalition for the Cure. We support them in their quest to find viable treatments, to encourage scientists to study HD, and to ultimately stop the degenerative progression of HD. Our goal for 2006 is to raise $150,000.

What is Huntington's Disease?
Huntington's Disease is a progressive degenerative neurological disease that causes total physical and mental deterioration over a 12-15 year period. Every person who has HD is born healthy and lives normal lives until symptoms set in. Oftentimes symptoms don't manifest themselves until the person is middle-age, after having children and passing the gene. However, with more HD repeats in the DNA sequence, symptoms can now begin at younger and younger ages -- even in pre-teens.
