The bobcat is North America's most abundant wild cat (excluding feral domestic cats). These cats are highly adaptable to habitat and prey and are highly variable in size and concentration of spots.
ROY'S STORY
Roy came from a very nice small zoo in the NC mountains called the Soco Garden Zoo. After 51 years in business, the family was closing the zoo due to the owner's health issues. The zoo owner had known for some time he would like to retire someday, so he had only taken in animals on loan for 10+ years, except for a few rescues.
After he returned all the animals he had on loan, the animals he had left were either rescues or more than 10 years old. In 2006, we agreed to take in Roy(age 20), Magic leopard(21), Oliver Binturong(11), and a rescued serval named Masufa.
The owner of the zoo took down his fencing and made panels out of the materials to make several clamp-together cages for the animals. Roy has a very nice, large enclosure. His enrichment consists of mainly low platforms, since he isn't very bouncy and does not like heights. He does enjoy lurking under the platforms. He also suns himself and watches "lemurvision" the two active lemurs next door. He also made friends with the female caracal next door.
Roy had $520 of vet treatment and meds so far this month. His eye is OK, but he had two toenails he wasn't scratching with, that needed a trim. While he was under sedation, we took other samples and found he has early stage renal failure. He is now on a special low protein, high fat diet that costs us $6 per day.
Since 2006, he has adapted well to his new surroundings. Please help us to maintain his health by contributing for his specialized diet. All donations are appreciated and tax deductible.
The fundraising amount will cover just his required diet over the period of one year.
He also is looking for a sponsor. If you are interested in Roy or learning more about Conservators' Center Inc. please visit their website www.conservatorscenter.org.
Thank you from the staff, residents, and volunteers of Conservators' Center Inc.
