Chicago Marathon 2007 - Team World Vision

Dan's 2007 Chicago Marathon Fundraiser for World Vision

I just want to thank everyone who contributed to this fundraiser for World Vision.

The temperature got up to 88 and they ran out of water and Gatorade in several aid stations, plus they were running out of ambulances. One Michigan man died. After about 3 1/2 hours into the race, the officials stopped the marathon but let all of those that were over halfway done continue on. The police were barking at us to STOP running and please walk. I walked until I felt pretty good, then jogged a bit and then walked again. I continued that until the last mile then kicked to the end. It was a hot and brutal day but I did finish in 5:38:56. I have to say that in spite of the heat and problems, it was one of the best things I've ever done.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! IT MADE A TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE IN MY MOTIVATION AND IT WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF FAMILIES!!!

I don't generally do things like this, but after reading about the plight of kids in Africa I decided to do something. In Africa, an entire generation is dying. Mothers. Fathers. Teachers. And many many children.

15 million children have been orphaned due to AIDS (That's around the same as the total number of high school students in the U.S.)

6,000 people die everyday of the disease.

In 2005 more than 2.8 million people died because of AIDS -That's equal to a plague killing off the entire population of Chicago.

Every day more than 29,000 children die, mostly due to preventable/treatable diseases and lack of clean water.

But this is not a hopeless situation. Not if people like us are willing to stand up and use their resources to do something about it.

World Vision is a Humanitarian Relief and Development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. I am going to run the Chicago Marathon on October 7th to raise funds for their fight in Africa. I've never run a marathon before, but have been training since January. You don't have to run a step, but there are other ways you can help.

There are two simple ways that you can support my efforts:

1) Click the link in the text box below, and sponsor a child for $35 per month

OR

2) Click on the SPONSOR ME NOW button at the bottom of the page and make an online donation.

Thank you so much for even the smallest donation.
