i'm migrating south!
so! i'm moving to new orleans, louisiana for the year to work as the community coordinator at a low income health clinic and live with 9 other like-minded (and jewish) young people...
"WHY?!" You may ask?
I'll tell you....
I've spent the last year applying to graduate programs and social activism jobs, working with low-income MPS students as a one-on-one, in-home tutor, and teaching parenting and childbirth education classes. I've also been working on my doula, or childbirth helper certification, along with my childbirth educator and lactation counselor certifications!
I was accepted by a handful of graduate schools - and to Avodah: A Jewish service corps.
I knew almost immediately that the Avodah program in New Orleans was exactly where I am supposed to be. It wasn't only the warmer weather, the good food, the people and culture, the opposite of Wisconsin....It's more than that! Spending a year doing full-time social justice work in a healthcare setting (hopefully as close to babies and pregnant bellies as possible!) while building an intentional community is exactly where I need and want to be.

This is where you come in!!!
SO! I'm fundraising. Fundraising for an incredible organization that chose me. I will be living with 9 other folks, all of whom will have different social justice work jobs throughout the NOLA community. We attend classes a few times a week, where we discuss and learn about issues of poverty, race, class, judaism, social activism and hopefully so much more.
If anyone wants to hear more about me, or Avodah, or childbirth or social work - I'd love to talk more about it. Any contributions for Avodah will be so greatly appreciated and will be put to good use! From what I've learned so far, it's a fantastic organization that deserves all of the monetary help they can get.
So! Email me or give me a call if you decide that donating is something you can and want to do. You can donate on this website - it's fast and easy and secure - or you can mail me, or Avodah a check (and I can give you more information if you decide to take that route.)
