2008 U.S. Transplant Games

Jimmy's Fundraising Team

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Trivia Night was held April 12, 2008 at the Pulaski Club in Easthampton.  It was a huge success.  Everyone had fun and we raised a lot of money.  Thanks to the Pulaski Club for donating the room.  Thanks to Joan Callini and all her helpers for putting on such a great event.  Thanks also to Carol Desrosiers, who won the 50/50 raffle prize of $374 and donated it all back to our cause.

We have reached our goal and then some!!!  We would like to thank everyone who has helped us to accomplish this goal.  We could not have done it without the generous contributions from everyone in the community.  Thanks go to every person who donated either online or in person.  Thanks go to every person who ran the Road Race, who cheered on the runners at the Road Race, who attended the Post-Race Party at Treydon's, who came to Trivia Night at the Pulaski Club, who bought a raffle ticket, and those who told their friends about what we are doing.  We could not have done this without you.

Thanks go to the many generous sponsors who donated time, money, space, and/or prizes to us.  These sponsors include Big E's, Mantis Graphics, Opa Opa, The Lift, Berkshire East, Boston Red Sox, Treydon's Bar and Grill, Pulaski Club, Big Y, Seamus O'Reilly's, Dandelion's, Maximum Exposure, ESP Automotive, Fenway Park Tours, Glory Day's, Paisano's, Carey & Carey Law Office, Register David Sullivan, and Pizza Wings & Things.  Thank you all very much.  We could not have done this without you.

Please continue to check this site for updates.  We will definitely post Jim's results from the Transplant Games when he gets back from the Games in Pittsburgh July 11-16, 2008.

OUR STORY

We are currently raising money for Team Mid-New England, which will be competing at the National Transplant Games in Pittsburgh, Pa July 11-16, 2008.  The Games is the only national athletic competition for recipients of all life-saving organ transplants, as well as the largest gathering of transplant recipients and donor families in the world.  The games are sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation.

Competing in the Games as a member of Team Mid-New England is Jimmy Messer, an Easthampton, MA native who underwent a successful kidney transplant on September 12, 2006 at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Ma.  Jimmy received a kidney from his aunt, Maureen Messer, of Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Maureen will attend the Games in July to cheer on Jimmy.

All the money we raise will be used to support the National Kidney Foundation, specifically the MA, NH, RI, VT chapter.  Some money will be used by the National Kidney Foundation not only to send members of Team Mid-New England to the Games but also to send donor families to the Games as well.

News January 22, 2008 WAYS TO HELP

St. Patrick’s Day Road Race: A team to raise money for this effort is currently forming to run the Holyoke St Patrick’s Day 10k Road Race on March 29th.  The cost to join the team is $20.  All team members will receive a team t-shirt and an invitation to the team rally the week before the race.  If you are interested in joining the team, email Dan Carey at drussellcarey@yahoo.com.  The $20 team fee can be paid to Dan or can be paid online at www.firstgiving.com/10k.  If paid online, please indicate in the "Comment" section that you would like to be a runner.

The Holyoke Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has a $25 registration fee to run the race.  You can register by going to www.holyokestpatricksparade.com.  This fee is separate from the $20 team fee (which goes entirely to the National Kidney Foundation).  Runners are encouraged to raise more than the $20 team fee by soliciting donations from friends and family.

Donate Directly Online: Please access our team website, www.firstgiving.com/10k, to stay up to date with what is happening and to view our fundraising totals.  The site includes information about the team and the National Kidney Foundation in addition to allowing direct online donations to help us in this effort.  Feel free to send that link to as many people as possible.

Attend Fundraising Event: During the week prior to race day, we will be holding a team rally/fundraising event.  The time and place are still being determined.  This event will be a big fundraiser for our team.  It will be open to the public and an auction and/or a raffle with great prizes are being planned.  It will be a fun night that should not be missed, so stay tuned to www.firstgiving.com/10k for updated details.  THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL!  Anyone can attend and everyone should attend.
