Have you ever done anything “just because?”

5 years ago, I signed up to run my first Chicago Marathon with OAR. I really had no idea what I was in for but I figured why not? I wanted to do something fun and do it for charity. My 2nd marathon proved to be more of a personal challenge. I wanted to finish faster and stronger than my first run, but in my training all I could think about was my son Josh, his friends, and the teachers who devote their lives to furthering the development of children with Autism. When I ran my 3rd marathon, I felt I was hooked. I quickly realized that my addiction was not to running, but to the Autism community. I felt passionate about promoting the good work of OAR and creating awareness about Autism. I signed up for a 4th run realizing that my continuous efforts are needed to further the research that OAR is doing. This 5th time I am running “just because.”

- Just because he is Josh Padilla,
- Just because he is my son,
- Just because he is becoming a teenager,
- Just because he is playing high school football,
- Just because he has teammates and coaches that take time to understand and engage him,
- Just because of his teachers who encourage him,
- Just because Josh has inspired his siblings to become special education teachers,
- Just because there are other parents who struggle with children who have autism,
- Just because Autism is the 2nd most common developmental disorder in the United States ,
- Just because Autism affects 1 in every 88 children born today,
- Just because every 20 minutes another child is diagnosed with Autism,
- Just because the cause of autism is STILL unknown and a cure does not exist,
- Just because.

Every year I try to think of another way to ask for your donations, so that you don't get tired of me. I guess this year it’s JUST BECAUSE.

Please take some time to check out OAR's web-site to know where your donations are going and what is done with the money raised. Pass this along to anyone you might know who would donate. Any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
