JOSEPH MICHAEL SCOTT McCAULEY
"HOLLYWOOD"
12 APRIL 1984 - 26 MAY 2008
"If it can happen to him...it can happen to anyone."
I am sorry if you never had the pleasure of meeting him. It is truely your loss.
I was lucky enough to call him a friend and it was an honor to hang out with him in some questionable bars in South Korea and Texas.
Mike (aka "Hollywood) was the textbook definition of the term "wise beyond his years". Before the age of 20 Hollywood had already completed a combat tour in Iraq and was picked up as an Air Base Defense Instructor in Korea at COMMANDO WARRIOR where he quickly established himself has one of the best cadre in the business. His fellow instructors loved him and his students couldn't get enough of him (some more than others). He was well liked around the base and almost everyone knew him at the adult establishments downtown. If you would've met him...you would've loved him!
Hollywood went on to serve 2 more tours in Iraq and completed his enlistment honorably in 2008. Sadly, he took his own life on Memorial Day that same year. It left everyone who knew him in total shock and most of us are still numb today.
We are talking about a good looking and intellegent young man with the biggest sense of humor you can imagine. He was the life of the party and was a success at everything he did. If it can happen to him...it can happen to anyone!
GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN MARATHON
Hollywood and I would get over some pretty nasty hangovers in Korea by going on a little 3 or 4 mile run. I started running again earlier this year and used those runs as therapy sessions. I would just think about Hollywood and reflect back to our runs in Korea. During a 10 mile run I decided to start training for a marathon. So on 11 July 2009 I am running a marathon in the mountains of North Carolina in his memory.
Please help me! Imagine if we can stop just one person from making the same tragic mistake that effects the loved ones left behind in the wake of a suicide. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and it doesn't have to happen! Help me spread the word and help those who may need help. I would hate for anyone to have to live with the pain that his family and friends have had to endure. It doesn't go away.
I am asking everyone to please help sponsor me and send a little money to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) on his behalf. You can donate through this web site or you can send your donation by mail to:

I know Hollywood will be with me every step of the way. Thanks for your support. Please send this web site to has many friends and family as you can...it only takes a second. Every little bit helps!
