I am running my first 1/2 Marathon, that's 13.1 miles folks, in October. I am running this as a goal set for myself, but also as a way to help raise money for a fantastic organiztion run by my good friend Lorissa Mahoney.
Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls age eight to thirteen years old. The program combines training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. I started my own running journey 2 years ago when I tried my first 5k. It ended up being a run/walk and with that I was determined to do better the next year. I have since continued my journey of running with a goal of being healthier overall. I ran the same 5k last year and again this year and improved my time by 16 minutes from my first attempt. I know how I feel after accomplishing all I have over the past couple years and seeing my improvements and love that Girls on the Run helps young girls feel just as accomplished.
