44 Mile Run For Global Health, Adopt A Doctor
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way, so...please donate now!
So here is why.............
Adopt A Doctor is a nonprofit that works to keep doctors working in their home countries. Essentially, they provide salaries to doctors in the poorest countries in the world to keep them from leaving their home land, and keep them invested in serving their communities. This decreases the number of lives that are lost to common diseases, and $70/month is all that is needed to keep a doctor in his or her home village. This group also keeps physicians working in the United States at home where they can also provide services to many of the underserved people in this country. You can see how widespread the effects of this group are.
Many of the families travel incredible distances just to obtain basic medical care, and 44 miles is a distance that is commonly traveled on foot to save lives. Malawi, Sierra Leone, Haiti, and Mali are some of the countries that Adopt A Doctor works in.
So.........
On May 5th, 2007 Dante and Gary are running from Kennebunkport to Portland, Maine, 44 MILES! The main goals are to raise money for Adopt A Doctor and to raise awareness of the distances that people around the world travel just to obtain basic medical care.
