I am running the Chicago Marathon to raise money for Autism Awareness. Autism affects more children every year, and their parents too!
Please donate any money you can. No donation is too small(or too large!). Every dollar helps educate more families. All proceeds go to the Organization for Autism Research, a national non-profit organization that funds research and resources for individuals diagnosed with Autism, and their families.
Consider donations of:
$10, $20, $40, $75, $100 or more!
Every dollar donated helps someone Understand Autism, Research Autism and provide family support to those with Autism.
Thank you for your support!
Race Day:
The marathon went well.
I ran a 4 hour 28 minute race, which met my goal of 4 ½ hours. At the start of the race, the temperature was 33 degrees. That called for long pants, which I hadn’t worn since April. There were people lining the streets for the entire 26.2 miles, which was a major boost.
Training update:
October 6th:
5 Days to the marathon. I think I am ready. Training is done. Lets hope the weather holds out. Thank you all who have supported me thus far, be it through donations, running together or otherwise. You are the best!!!
September 12th:
I ran my 2nd 20 miler today. It went well. I maintained a 10 min per mile average, including the time spent stopped at the water stops. I am happy with that. Less than 1 month to the marathon!
August 14th:
I am getting ready for my 1st 18 miler tomorrow morning. Completed a 17 miler last week, maintaining a 10 minute mile pace! I am very happy about that. I will also cross the 600 mile mark for the year on this upcoming 18 mile run.
July 27th:
Preparing for the Urban Wildland 1/2 Marathon this weekend. I crossed over the 500 miles for the year milestone this past weekend.
July 15th:
Longest run so far is 12.44 miles. Will be running a 10 mile race this weekend. So far, recovery from my ankle injury is going well.
June 24th:
I've been back running for a week and a half, all things look good for now. I will break the 10 mile barrier for the 1st time this year with an 11 mile run on Saturday.
June 8th:
I rolled my ankle on June 2nd, and have been rehabbing that. No running yet, but I am walking 2+miles on the treadmill. I am keeping my cardio going by using a stationary bike. I hope to be running/jogging again by this weekeend.
This is day 1 of the official marathon training. Thankfully, I have a strong base built up from my spring training to withstand a lull in my running.
May 8th:
4 more weeks of my 'spring training'. Then, its on to the 'marathon training' and the distance goes up. So far, not many injury issues, but its early, so hopefully it keeps up.
May 1st:
I have now run over 200 miles for the year. I am still in my 'spring training' portion, which has me working on speed rather than distance. My long run for the year so far, 8.1 miles. I feel good when I run, so I am confident that the last 5+ weeks of spring training will go well.
Fundraising is just getting started. Thank you for your support!
April 22:
I have run over 180 miles so far this year. I am in the middle of a spring training program that is helping me increase my speed. In June I will commense with my Marathon Training schedule, which will have me run over 450 miles before the actual race. In total, I expect to cover more than 800 miles before race day. This Saturday, I am running in the Get In Gear 10K race.
For more information on why I am running, continue reading.
I am running this race to promote Autism Awareness. There are many children who have Autism and the more people who are aware of this disorder, the better their lives will be. Also, there are types of Autism, some much more mild than others. There are many children(and adults) who have milder forms of Autism(like Aspergers) who do not know it and thus are not able to properly deal with it.
Take my son Corey, for example. He is 6 and while he is not technically diagnosed with Aspergers, he does display many Aspergers symptoms. Knowing that he has these sensory processing differences, we, as his parents, can work with him to better deal with the difficult scenarios he encounters.
Please join with me. Please donate to my fundraiser. In return, I am training for the Chicago Marathon. I will run this marathon in honor of all people with Autism, and their families too!
Thank you for your generosity.
Thank you all again for your support.
