I have been asked what my motivation is to wake up and run 15 miles before going to work, run 70 miles a week, and put my body through the pain of racing marathons. The answer is quite simple. I do it for my son, Daniel. You see, he is in a race too, except his race is for his life.
Daniel has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a degenerative genetic disease that will take his ability to walk in his junior high years and will take his life in his mid-twenties. As it stands today, DMD is incurable and is 100% fatal.
I, along with other parents of boys with DMD are seeking to change this outcome for our sons by funding promising research. Our hope is that it will ultimately lead to a cure for DMD and will give our sons a chance to live longer more rewarding lives.
I qualified for the 2009 Boston Marathon and will be racing it for Cureduchenne.org. This organization is focused solely on DMD research including Prosensa's Phase I/II clinical study (http://www.cureduchenne.citymax.com/ProsensaPRO051.html), that will directly benefit Daniel and other boys with DMD.
So, why do I run? I run for a cure; to do what I can to give my son a future. You can join in this race by making a generous donation below. There are little administrative expenses paid out of these donations. Dollars raised go straight to research.
Whether you are able to donate or not, please pray for God's mercy for our boys.
