Hi Friends,
I am excited to participate in a new charity event, called ADVENTURE FOR THE CURES hosted by the Women's Motorcyclist Foundation (www.womensmotorcyclistfoundation.org). I will join eleven other women to form the "DIRTY DOZEN". We will take on the challenge of learning dual motorcycle sport riding. During this event, we will ride 1,500 miles on single-track trails as well as dirt and gravel roads.
Our mission is to raise funds, awareness and visibility around breast and ovarian cancers. The recipients of our fundraising efforts will be the Dr. Susan Love Foundation (www.drsusanloveresearchfoundation.org) and the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (www.gynecologiccancerfoundation.org).
I am proud to be riding with this group of women, all dedicated to the same cause, and have pledged to raise $2,000 for these charities.
The money raised for these charities will support continued research toward the eradication of these cancers. I am personally aware of the need for more research, in 1980 at the young age of 49 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. By 1989, it had metastasized and that same year she succumbed to the cancer.
In 2002, at the age of 46, I also received a diagnosis of breast cancer. Yearly mammograms enabled my Doctors to detect the cancer in its early stage. After surgery, and radiation I am grateful to report that I continue to get my yearly checkups and am healthy today!
Without these charitable organizations funding critical research over the last twenty-nine years, I don't think I would be where I am today "surviving". The medical advancements made from the time of my mother's diagnosis to mine are unbelievable. We need to do more though. There are other silent killers out there like ovarian cancer and other Gynecological Cancers. I will continue working to raise contributions for research to these cancers until the world is cancer free!
I ride in Memory of my mother Marilyn, for my continued health and for my friends and loved ones who are battling both breast and ovarian cancers today. They are all sister riders and warriors and their courage and strength fill my heart. I love you all.
