Your help is desperately needed to help quake-impacted Haitians
An aftershock measuring a magnitude of 6.1 hit the Port-au-Prince area on Jan. 20, 2010, jolting people awake and sparking fear of further damage and injuries. Sadly, hundreds of thousands have already lost loved ones, homes, and possessions in the 7.1-magnitude quake that hit Port-au- Prince on January 12. Since then, the streets have been filled with people who are homeless or are fearful of returning to damaged and fragile buildings. Survivors and search teams are still digging through rubble to find signs of life. Hospitals are overwhelmed, running low on supplies and personnel, yet hundreds of thousands of people desperately need medical care.
The latest reports cited a death toll as high as 200,000, with more than 3 million people—one-third of Haiti’s population—injured or left homeless. World Vision’s main office in Port-au-Prince was rendered unusable, but operations continue in a second building. Thankfully, none of World Vision’s sponsorship communities reported major damages, but those areas will most likely be affected by the economic recession and a potentially masssive influx of people into rural areas due to a lack of basic services in Port-au-Prince.
I have an opportunity in January to run a half-marathon in
support of Team World Vision. World Vision works to tackle the root
causes of poverty by working with children, families, and their
communities to provide things like clean water, health care, nutritious
food, education, and economic opportunities.
I hope to be able to return to Haiti on a regular basis to
invest my heart and passion into the people who have made a permanent
impression on my life. You can support my efforts through Team World
Vision by making a one-time tax-deductible donation.
Here are two ways you can do it sponsor me:
1. $3 for every mile that I run/walk ( I will run/walk 13.1)
2. $1 - $1,000 whatever you have to give, any donation will go a long
way, especially the $1,000 donation! :)
Thank you so much for your support!
