David Greene's Fundraising Page
Thank you for checking out my site! I am riding in the Seattle to Portland Ride this July 12-13, 2008. It is a 200-mile ride over two days. I am riding as a part of Team World Vision to raise money for their Bikes for Africa project.
What is Bikes for Africa?Bikes for Africa is World Vision’s new campaign to get 30 million bikes into Africa in the next 10 years. They have partnered with the experts in the cycling industry to create a rugged bike that will last up to 5 years in the African bush.
Imagine how life changes for an individual living in Africa where walking to the market takes up to half of the day and you are only able to bring a few products with you each time you go. World Vision and their partners,
World Bicycle Relief and
SRAM, are looking to revolutionize transportation in Africa by providing long-lasting, durable bikes that can carry up to 220 pounds, boost mobility and financial opportunities by 400% and ensure sustainable access to education and healthcare.
Today there are over 3,000 bikes on the ground in Zambia and Tanzania. In addition to providing bikes World Vision provides jobs through World Bicycle Relief’s mechanic training program. These mechanics are able to service the bikes from beginning to end.
How can you get involved?Make a donation today…Donate $100 to provide a bike loan to villagers. Income generated from the bike will repay it in 6 months. This revolving loan means…
$100 = 10 bikes over 5 years! We are working through World Vision’s microfinance programs to provide these bikes. The money that is generated through the revolving loan fund goes back to purchase more bikes and provide more loans for additional people in each country we take this program.
Some of the biggest names in cycling are getting behind our ride. Will you get behind me? It costs about $100 for a bike. Help us put thousands of bikes into rural Zambia and help us make life better for the children of Africa.
You can help us buy one or more bikes with your donation. If you can't give $100 or more, you can still contribute. Any size contribution will help.
Thanks so much!
David
