Dave Harmon's Marathon for Children's Cancer Research
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! If you sponsored my previous runs, THANKS for your support again! With your help we ARE finding cures through the Massachusetts General Hospital Children's Cancer and Leukemia Research Fund and we will find better ones (as you can see by following some of the links).
Please forward this page to your generous friends and tell them that their donations are tax deductible, whether given online right here in a fast, efficient and totally secure way, or by check to the "Massachusetts General Hospital (Marathon Run)" mailed to my secretary, Donna Silva, Yawkey 7944, Mass General Hospital, Boston, MA 02114 (617 726 8748). Donna and our extraordinary nurse practitioner, Jill Nelson, are working hard to convert my middle-aged athletic aspirations into more than blisters, but we need your help.
MGH Children's Cancer Research and I appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference, but please try to give generously! Ask your employer about gift-matching programs to double your contribution. Over 95% of donations will go directly to research to fight cancers and leukemias that affect children. Cures for kids help adults too!
You can follow our fundraising progress at this site. I set a higher goal this year, and HOORAY ! We have already met that goal, so let's go for the record!! On race day 4/16 you can follow my progress at http://bostonmarathon.com/ The 26.2 miles including heartbreak hill took me 4:29 in 2006, so I am shooting for 4:19 (that would be my record). Sure, I'm getting younger. I'll be wearing an apple green shirt with bib # 22,690, and moving, slowly. Step by step and donation by donation let's do what we can to help these great patients and families.
This year I am running in honor of my best friend, Mike Fox. I wish all of my patients had friends like Mike. Probably some of you are visiting this site because you are friends of one of my patients, or of Mike. If so, your donations represent only a small part of what I should thank you for providing. Mike's daughter was kind enough to supply a link to more pictures at http://brewster.org/gallery/Dad http://brewster.org/gallery/album14 Just looking at scenes of the happiness he brought to this world inspires me to give my best. By the way, Mike, could you smile a little sunshine down on us to break up this nor'easter?
Thanks for your support and friendship!!
Dave Harmon, M.D.
PS Thanks for easing up on that nor'easter, Mike. Next year we'll go for a tailwind instead, and maybe I can even make my time goal. As is, I am thrilled that we smashed the fund-raising goal. Friends are great!!
