PARENT PROJECT MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY

Walt Disney Marathon Weekend 2007
Training buddies: My biggest fans - my wife and boys

Run for Daniel - Team PPMD

***DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH JANUARY 31!***

WE DID IT! Team PPMD proudly finished the Walt Disney World Half-Marathon and Marathon this past weekend. What an inspirational experience. We are so grateful for our wonderful friends who joined us on this amazing journey !  To see all the training and hard work pay as each of us crossed the finish line was truly magical. We are inspired by their dedication, caring and commitment and are honored to be their friends.

We are also thankful for our family and friends, the family and friends of the rest of Team PPMD and the kindness of others who were touched by our story. We could not have done any of this without your generosity and support! We know that every step taken and every dollar raised brings us closer to a treatment or cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and for our son. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us in this fight! GO TEAM!

We look forward to 2007 with anxious anticipation as PTC124 advances to phase 3 trials. We wish you all a new year filled with hope and possibilities!

For those of you keeping score, here are the official race results:

Half Marathon - 2:33:31

Thank you everyone for your support, prayers and donations,

David, Karen, Daniel, Noah, and Christian

Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!  If you can help in any way, please do.

To our friends and family,

Most of you are aware that our son Daniel was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).  As it stands today, this degenerative muscle disorder is 100% fatal.  It wastes away every muscle in the body.  Boys with DMD typically lose their ability to walk between the ages of 8-14, then lose upper body strength in their late teens.  Sadly, most will lose their battle to DMD in their early twenties due to pulminary and respiratory failure.  But that does not mean that we are without hope.

I will be running the Disney World half Marathon - Florida in January 2007 for the Parent Project for Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), along with friends and families of other boys with DMD.  PPMD, a non-profit organization was founded by parents of kids with muscular dystrophy and is a leader in funding research in the fight against DMD. PPMD has identified the most promising research prospects, with a focus on helping the current generation of boys lead longer more rewarding lives. Each of those steps will take time and money, which is why we need your help.  With your donations and support, we can continue the fight against DMD.

The article in the following link offers a real perspective on the importance of your donations to this research:

"If they would find a cure when I'm a kid I could ride a bike and sail on rollerblades, and I could go on really long nature hikes
If they would find a cure when I'm a teenager I could earn my license and drive a car, and I could dance every dance at my senior prom.
If they would find a cure when I'm a young adult I could travel around the world and teach peace, and I could marry and have children of my own.
If they would fine a cure when I'm grown old I could visit exotic places and appreciate culture And proudly share pictures of my grandchildren.
If they find a cure when I'm alive I could live each day without pain and machines, and I could celebrate the biggest thank you of life ever.
If they would find a cure when I'm buried into heaven I could still celebrate with my brothers and sister there, and I could still be happy knowing that I was a part of the effort"

A poem by Mattie J.T. Stepanek (1990 - 2002)
