Walk for a Cure and Family Services for HD

Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, the 1st annual “Walk for a Cure” will be held at beautiful Grand Woods Park in Delta Township, a suburb of Lansing to raise money and awareness for Huntington’s disease, a fatal neurological disease.  This wonderful event will provide a fun-filled day of walking, entertainment, and refreshments for the whole family.  All proceeds from the event will go to fund research, education and family care initiatives in Michigan for Huntington’s disease.

To further underscore the importance of your involvement with this special event, it is important to provide you with some background on Huntington's disease (HD).  HD is a hereditary, degenerative brain disorder that slowly diminishes an individual's ability to walk, think, feel, talk, and reason.  The disease usually strikes young adults between the ages of 30 and 40, but children as young as two have developed the disease.  Right now one in 10,000 Americans have this disease and approximately 350,000 people are at risk.  Currently there is no effective treatment or cure.

Money raised by the “Walk for a Cure” goes directly to helping research possible treatments and cures, local patient and family care, and local family and community education in Michigan.  On a larger scale, HD's coordinated national and international research will also benefit people with diseases related to Huntington's – diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and many dystrophies.
