I will be running the Great Bay Half Marathon on April 11 to raise money for children with Autism.   Our Team, FOR JAKE'S SAKE, will be running to raise money for our 501(c)3 non-profit, which helps families in need of assistance to provide therapies for their children with autism.

Most of you don't realize what it is like to have a child with Autism - you're lucky.  Some of us are still waiting for our 6 year olds to say their first sentence, go potty on the potty and not in a diaper, wave hello or goodbye, or just look us in the eye for more than a fleeting second.   Many of you don't know what it's like to not be able to take your child out in public, because any small noise can set off a 45 minute nuclear tantrum.    Others of us are fortunate enough that our children have overcome some of these obstacles, but will need constant therapy to maintain these goals.

It is for all of the families dealing with autism that I am running 13.1 miles.  The money raised will go directly to a family struggling with the costs of the therapies that help our children so very much.  The same therapies that insurance companies and schools are unwilling to cover, leaving families to pay out of pocket.
