Help Chester Fight Pneumonia
Chester's Story
Chester's only a few weeks old, but has already had a hard life. He was found wondering on his own and was taken to the local animal shelter where he waited for someone to claim him. No one came, but HHBR took him in. His age was estimated at 12-14 weeks, kind of young to be out on your own. Although not ALL basset - please do not blame him for his father's wondering eye!
We thought everything would be okay, but BOY, were we wrong!
On Wednesday of last week, Chester's foster mom called and said he was have difficulty breathing. He had been diagnosed with an upper respirtory infection on Monday, but this seemed to be worse. He wasn't eating -- not anything like a normal basset -- and seemed to be having a very difficult time breathing. We took him straight to the Emergency Animal Clinic and there he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He stayed overnight and got IV fluids, antibiotics and nebulizer treatments. The next morning he went to the regular vet and there they continued the nebulizer treatments and his antibiotics.
Chester, still wasn't showing much interest in food and the formally happy-go-lucky, all-out playing machine, was lethargic and droopy. He continues to stay at the vet with round the clock care and by Saturday morning Chester showed some improvement and was eating a little bit. By Sunday, he was showing definite interest in food -- and we knew then that Chester was on the healing road.
We are all so happy that Chester has survived. But, the vet bills are very large.
