Walk for Awareness for Children with Craniofacial Conditions
Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 11 AM
This is a charity event being run by Forward Face which is a unique grassroots organization based in New York that provides programs and services to help children and their families with immediate and comprehensive support as they manage the many challenges of living with a craniofacial condition.
Forward Face provides children and their families with immediate support to manage the medical and social effects of facial conditions, which are primarily caused by birth defects, and may also be caused by accident or illness. We educate, advocate, and raise public awareness about craniofacial conditions in the quest for understanding and acceptance. Though the range and severity of these conditions vary, they often involve years of reconstructive plastic surgery, with most of our children undergoing 20 or more surgeries during their growth years. More than 300,000 children are born each year in the U.S. with facial differences. Forward Face, started in 1978 by parents of children with craniofacial conditions, has a close affiliation with NYU Medical Center Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (IRPS) and we also serve the needs of children at other craniofacial centers around the country. Forward Face is an independent non-profit and does not receive funding from any medical facility.
