Snoopy-Tu's intestinal blockage
Snoopy-Tu has a remarkable story.
Originally adopted thru East Valley Animal Shelter, Snoopy-Tu is a one and a half years old, healthy basset. As bassets will sometimes do he ate a rock and I mean a ROCK which caused an intestinal blockage. His owner could not afford this veterinary care and took him back to the shelter. The amazing team of Veronica, Pnina and Julie immediately reached out and networked Snoopy-Tu to come on into BaRNi at Daphneyland. He was picked up and transported for emergency surgery. BaRNi’s Vet, Dr. Kim, did an amazing job! Cost for this surgery was $1500.00 at a special rate.
Snoopy was doing fine post-op, but he somehow managed to pop a stitch despite his e-collar head containment and crate confinement. Fortunately this was noticed almost immediately and no time was lost as Snoopy-Tu was transported to the vet's in order to repair the suture. Catastrophe struck while enroute to the vet's office. A relatively small emergency became much more life threatening and expensive. WARNING: the following content will be very graphic. For those who can handle GRAPHIC DETAILS:
Snoopy-Tu managed to pop another suture enroute, and major portions of his intestines protruded. He then stepped on them in his transport kennel , and upon arrival at Roswinn he was in pain and very, very scared. Dr. Kim cleansed and attempted to correct the intestinal displacement, however since the intestinal wall had been damaged, specialists were required. Under anesthesia Snoopy was transported to Veterinary Specialists of the Valley where bowel resectioning (removal) of a little more than 4 feet was required, the abdominal cavity was flushed yet again. Snoopy is still at the Vet’s recovering. He is on IV, antibiotics and pain management medications. We do have photos of the displacement, however feel they are too graphic for full viewing. The resectioning operation took 5 hours with the team of veterinary specialists. After this almost unbelievable trauma, Snoopy-Tu is alive and is expected to make a full recovery barring additional complications. His estimated cost for this almost unbelievable adventure is: $6,822.75, this does not include the charges for Dr. Kim at Roswinn, and additional medications which will be needed.
