Family & Friends…
First, to my family & friends ~ Thank you for your support over the years, sometimes putting on a “tough” front is easier than it looks.
As most of you know I have had Lupus for 20 years now. The past few years have been the hardest with the involvement of my heart and the new diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension, my world has been spinning. I would like nothing better than to get more research dollars into the Lupus arena; I believe there are plenty of ‘little blue pills’ & ‘eyelash growing’ meds on the market - let’s do research on something that can actually help people!
To do my part I will be participating in the Annual Walk for Lupus Saturday September 25th. I had a blast last year with everyone who came out to join me, our team raised $845.00!!!
I may be slow, but with my Oxygen tank and comfy shoes I’m going as far as I can (no I will not use a wheelchair!). I would like to invite you to participate by joining my team and/or raising money for the Walk.
I understand that times are tough and if you can only give a few bucks it is appreciated and it will be put to good use (it all adds up). Your past donations have helped make possible the 1st new treatment for Lupus in 50 years!
I hope you can join me for the walk, or support with whatever you can spare!
As a side note: The drug study that I participated in for over a year has had great results. On August 19th 2010 there was a press release from the Manufacturer (Human Genome Sciences & Glaxo Smith Kline) they announced
“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration have granted a PRIORITY review designation to BENLYSTA as a potential treatment for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.” A priority review is granted to drugs that, if approved, offer major advances in treatment or provide a treatment where no adequate therapy exists. The FDA has a target date of December 9, 2010 for this approval. And…when it comes to market I will be able to receive this medication due to my participation! Woo-Hoo!
** Also this year Pets are allowed on the Walk at Metro Beach, they must be on a leash and must be cleaned up after. **
Thank you so much…
Dawn
