Foundation for Applied Research in Gastrointestinal Oncology Fargo

St. James' Way For Gastrointestinal Cancer Research

St. James' Way For Gastrointestinal Cancer Research

 (Versão em Português abaixo)

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

In November 2005, shortly before our first wedding anniversary, my husband, Joe Black, was diagnosed at the age of 35 with a rare gastrointestinal cancer known as Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, which originated as a Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the Appendix and then spread along the peritoneal surface in his abdomen.

Sixteen harrowing months later, which included five surgeries (one of which was a terrifying ten hour cytoreductive surgery with heated intra-abdominal chemotherapy), a temporary ileostomy for ten months and twelve cycles of systemic chemotherapy for six months, my husband was, unbelievably, and miraculously diagnosed as cancer free.

As a way of giving thanks to God for my husband's life and health and to raise awareness of and funds for research into gastrointestinal cancers to help others, I have decided to walk the St. James' Way (El Camino de Santiago), a 780 km (485 mile) pilgrimage from the eastern side of the Pyrenees in south western France to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain.

I will be walking this great distance to raise $50,000 for the Foundation for Applied Research in Gastrointestinal Oncology (FARGO), a non-profit organization that promotes research, education and patient care in gastrointestinal oncology world wide.

Every donation counts.  Please consider making a pledge of $25.00 or more to help me reach my goal of $50,000.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.  Additionally, if relevant, please check with your Human Resources department about whether your company has a matching gift program!

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

 God bless you!
