Hey everyone! I wanted to give an update on my training for the Marine Corp Marathon. Well, summer has come and gone. My training has hit a few snags but I am getting on track. I had to take 3 weeks off from training because of a foot injury. I have gotten on track, switched shoes and now feel great. Last week I ran over 50 miles andI have completed my two longest training runs both 20 milers. I have one month left and in the next 2 weeks I will start to Taper down my running to get ready for race day.
My next race is the Baltimore Half Marathon on October 10th! and then the full Monty is on October 25th.
I am choosing to run this race for a charity to support Autism Research. Several friends of mine have children with autism and Kristin (my wife) works with children who have autism on a weekly basis. I believe that this is an underrecognized cause and it is my hope not only to raise money to support autism research but raise awareness.
Consider......
- 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism
- 1 in 94 boys is on the autism spectrum
- 67 children are diagnosed per day
- A new case is diagnosed almost every 20 minutes
- More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined
- Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
- Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to significantly increase in the next decade
- Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
- Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism
- There is no medical detection or cure for autism
