Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
This is my fifth year with Gilda's Gang - a 1/2 marathon training program and our biggest annual fundraiser. Since the program started in 2006, more than $750,000 has been raised for Gilda's Club - a free support community for anyone affected by cancer. We like to say "until there's a cure, thank goodness for Gilda's Club"!
I have met so many extraordinary people through The Gang - and am constantly amazed by the fearless and courageous individuals who not only choose to walk/run in the cold and rain, but also become ambassadors for Gilda's Club - raising money while their muscles ache, feet are blistered, and they seriously question their sanity and ability to cross the finish line.
This year we have several cancer survivors, caregivers, and Gilda's Club members who are participating in The Gang. They truly embody the "just show up and shut up" philosophy. Some are just finishing treatment, some are in the midst of treatment, and then there are those who have recently been diagnosed with a recurrence - and not only dealing with the news - but determining a new course of action. It really is all about "living with cancer" and the uncertainty that comes with it.
Two of my close friends - Pam and Paige are both cancer survivors. Pam is currently in treatment for a recurrence, and Paige is working on "getting back to normal" after the loss of her Mom to ALS last year. I admire them immensely for their strength, grace, and especially their sense of humor. We gather at our favorite watering hole regularly to listen, laugh, and enjoy group hugs.
On race day, I will be honoring the many people I love who have been affected by cancer: my Dad, Uncle Dick, Aunt Ethyl, Sheryl, Radar, and the members of Gilda's Club who inspire me every day!
Any amount is greatly appreciated, and all contributions are 100% tax deductible. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
With lots of love, Deb
