Help save Maverick's life
Maverick was born on April 10, 2007. He was a healthy foal for just one day. On the morning of his second day of life he developed copious bloody diarrhea and had to be rushed, along with his mother Peso, to the Chaparral Animal Hospital in Phoenix. He is desperately ill with an aggressive intestinal bacteria and needs intensive antibiotics and plasma to have any chance of making it through this. His chances of surviving are about 50/50.
Maverick's mother, Peso, was a Premarin mare who we rescued , along with 11 other mares, from the Canadian slaughterhouse in October 2006. We snatched them from death at the 11th hour.
We discovered that 4 of the mares were pregnant shortly after they arrived at our ranch. Peso was the second mare to deliver, and we still have 2 more foals on the way.
Please help us save Maverick's life. He is so sweet and innocent! We need to give him the best of care, but bills like this are crippling to the rescue.
4/16/07 Update on Maverick. Maverick returned from the veterinary hospital and is doing well. He is on multiple medications, and the white stuff on his face is his liquid medication, which he doesn't like very much. He also has tendon problems in his front legs, and the casts will be on for a few more days. None of this stops him from being insatiably curious and cute as pie. Thank you for helping Maverick. Any help we can get with this veterinary bill is appreciated. Just $25 means so much to us.
