Many of you know how hard it has been for all nonprofits to get donations in these trying times. Besides the normal costs of running and maintaining the shelter, we have had some unique situations that have depleted our operating funds. We are struggling to find money to continue to operate so we are reaching out to our supporters to once again ask for your help. Any amount will help us to continue to provide care for the animals in the shelter and for the animals in foster care.
Here are some of the things that have occured over the past few months.
* We have had many cats who have had to come back to us because their owners are now unemployed and can no longer take care of them. (Angel PAWS has a policy that any animal adopted from us will always be taken back if the adopter finds that they can no longer care for their animal.) We wish the previous owners well, however our hearts break for the animals, as their world has come crashing down on them. Many of them have been in a home for years and do not remember shelter life.
*We have had some cats abandoned outside of the shelter, due to the economy, and many have had medical issues which have been very expensive for us to treat.
* We recently had to use a large portion of our funds to save a dog's life.
Rufus, who we rescued years ago from a municipal shelter, had lived in a home for a few years. His owner could no longer care for him and although he is a great dog, multiple trainers advised that he would be better off in a sanctuary environment rather than rehoming him. Rufus is now at a sanctuary where he will live for the rest of his life. It was very expensive to get Rufus into the sanctuary in NY. Angel PAWS will never euthanize an animal if they have a chance at a happy life and Rufus will be very happy in his new home.
* A former volunteer, a very special lady who adored her pets, passed away suddenly and we took all of her cats into the safety of our shelter. Two of the four cats have special needs and again this is expensive.
* We have had an unbelievable amount of kittens this year. Many of these kittens may not get adopted and the cost of ongoing care is prohibitive.
* We have had plumbing problems and have had to have things replaced at the shelter, including our isolation ventilation fan. Again, this has been very expensive.
Here is how your donation can help.
$5 - 10 cans of food.
$12 - 1 1/2 bags of dry food or 1 bag of specialty dry food.
$25 - 5 bags of litter
$50 - Cost of a vet visit (excluding medication and tests)
$75 - Cost of a neuter
$100 - Cost of a spay
Other amounts - can be used towards rent/utility bills, medical tests and medication, repairs and general supplies for the animals and the shelter.
