**UPDATE**Oct 21, 2006...Bailey is still being treated at the vets in Texas, as they felt his upper respiratory illness was too severe for travel long distance. He is under the care of our friends at Dalmatian Rescue of North Texas and will hopefully get well enough to come here to Phoenix soon! In the mean time, he is being well-cared for. They are not sure if he has just a upper respiratory infection, such as kennel cough, from being at the shelter, or if he has some chemical burns to his lungs. He is being treated and monitored there until it clears. Thanks for helping Bailey - I will post updates as I get them and hopefully we'll get to see him soon here!!!
**UPDATE**Oct 10, 2006...Bailey was pulled from the shelter with the help of our friends at Dalmatian Rescue of North Texas, but he appeared to be sick and was coughing and had a runny nose, so he went right to the vets. They ran bloodwork and thankfuly he is heartworm negative and hopefully just has kennel cough, but he is sick enough to have to stay boarding at the vets and also the vet is concerned now about possible chemical burns/damage to his lungs from being down in that pit for so long and with the possibility of exposure to chemicals used there at the plant. They are keeping him for observation and further testing. The vets did not feel Bailey should travel anytime soon in his condition, so they recommend keeping him there for the time being. Unfortunately, that means more funds are needed and also poor Bailey can't go to a foster home yet.
Please donate so we can cover Bailey's ongoing care! We've raised our goal so we can be sure to have enough for his vetting and care. As soon as he is stable enough, we will be looking at moving him here to Phoenix where he can enjoy a nice foster home experience!
Thank you for your generous help!!

**UPDATE**Oct 6th, 2006...Wow, what an incredible response to Bailey's fund! Thank you so much for your generosity in caring for him. Many thanks especially to all the volunteers associated with Dalmatian Rescue of North Texas- your group is AWESOME and you've helped so much, as most of the donations came in from that group's volunteers!!! I am teary-eyed seeing that we met the goal and that so many stepped up to help - thanks again!!! I'll keep you updated on his progress.
Ann has been working hard on his transport plans and we have a nice lady trucker who has agreed to drive him all the way from OK City right to Phoenix, where she lives! He will get pulled out of the shelter this weekend and transport here should happen soon. Hopefully he won't have heartworm or anything major, but if he does, these funds will help us so much. I was worried because we are really broke and owe more money than we have right now (lots of vet bills) but with all the donations, we should be okay and can help him get all that he needs!
Thanks again,
Lisa, Lucky Dog Rescue in Phoenix
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------BAILEY'S STORY:
Bailey and another brown mixed breed dog were found stuck in a 20 foot deep pit in Fort Worth Texas at a Caterpillar factory.
This is the story from the animal control officer....
"They have metal sheets that they run through a chipper and dump in this 20-foot pit and then a big magnet picks the stuff up out of the pit. there is not really a way into the pit. It does have a railing around it so people can't fall into it, but I guess the dogs were able to go under it. they have people that go and check things out a few times a week at the site. About a week ago they found a dead dog but they have procedures they have to follow before they can have the carcass removed. When they checked the other day, the two live dogs were there. They called us out. We had to call the fire department to get a ladder to get down in the pit. The ACO had a rope put on him, went down and put a rope around each dog and carried them up the ladder."
We are trying to raise funds for Bailey to hitch a ride here to Phoenix, because right now he is stuck at a high kill city animal control shelter on his last days. He is a very sweet dog and deserves a second chance after all he's already been through!! The thought of him getting put to sleep after surviving such an ordeal is beyond tragic and we can't let that happen. We are working together with another rescue in Texas to find a place where we can pay to board him until transport can be found.
We really need sponsors to help with tranpsort costs, boarding, continued vet care and all he needs to be readied for adoption. Can you help us help Bailey?
Thank you for your support!! We're also checking with a group called Flying Paws to see if we can coordinate a volunteer pilot willing to fly Bailey out here to us. We'll keep you posted on his progress and let you know when we figure out transport!
Sincerely,
Lisa Maturo
