**UPDATE**10:30am, Tues 8/31...The vet called to tell me that Tina went into respiratory distress and cardiac arrest. They couldn't revive her. From what they initially told me, I thought she would survive, so I'm really in shock.
The vet explained that the puncture wounds were much more severe than they initially thought and the one to her trachea was causing breathing problems. They were not able to do surgery because they were concerned she would slip into respiratory arrest under anesthesia. They had hoped she would stablize first and then surgery could happen to repair the trachea.
I'm very sad. Tina has been with our rescue for a long, long time and has had a lot of hard knocks. We originally saved her from the euthanasia list at the county shelter (our main mission) and it breaks my heart to pieces that she went through pain and suffering like this in the end. I hope she is at peace now.
Thank you to all who donated and shared your support and caring hearts on Tina's behalf. She deserved a second chance and I'm so very sad she wasn't able to fulfill that in our rescue. We will find another to help at the shelter in her name.
Sincerely,
Lisa

**UPDATE**9pm, Weds eve, 8/30.... The vet called to give me an update and said she is in critical condition. They are concerned about the multitude of bite wounds and the possibility of her going back into shock. They are keeping her on IV fluids and helping to prevent that. They said they will need to watch for shock for the next two days and then hopefully stabilize her enough for surgery on the trachea. I hope tomorrow there will be better news and she will be stable. They gave me a better idea of an estimate and the surgery itself will be $2500-2700. The cost of hospitalizing her, the x-rays and other treatments put us up to at least $4000. I am trying not to freak out!

Early this morning, Tina's foster home called to let us know that another dog there attacked her and she was bleeding, not moving and having a hard time breathing. She was rushed to the vets and was found to be in shock. She also has a damaged trachea (puncture wound) along with several bite wounds on her body. She is expected to recover, but may need surgery to correct her airway problems from the trachea injury. She has one very deep bite wound that may need surgical care as well.
We want to give Tina all the necessary care she needs, but we need the help of our dog loving friends out there! Our rescue funds are tight, and we're trying to save as many as we can off the euthanasia lists at county shelters right now, during times when the shelters are extremely full. In order to keep saving more, we have to ask for help from the community for the necessary funds in these cases of unexpected emergencies. We don't want to have to cut back on helping more dogs as a result of a high emergency vet bill. We appreciate your help and hope you'll stay in touch! It will make a big difference for Tina and for all the other dogs we will help from the shelters.
I will post updates on Tina's condition later today as I find out more.
Thank you for helping!!
