**UPDATE May 3rd, 2007... Mortie's surgery went very well. Poor baby was really groggy when we picked him up this afternoon, he was stumbling around still. It appears that his vision has not been permanently affected!! This is great news for Mortie. We are hoping to find a foster home for Mortie, so he can recover in a nice loving home on a soft bed. He really loves people and it's sad to see him stuck in the boarding kennel. Please consider becoming Mortie's foster family! Contact us for more info--

**WOW, THANK YOU to all who donated so quickly, especially Michele Clayton who covered such big portion of it so generously!
I called the vet and they were able to squeeze him in for a surgery tomorrow, since I told them he was in such pain and discomfort, so Mortie will go tomorrow and get the surgery!!!!
We are still in need of funds on another dog's vet bills, so if anyone would like to help on that one, please visit this page:

We're paying that one off still and could really use the help.
THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME THROUGH SO QUICKLY FOR MORTIE!!
Sincerely,
Lisa

Poor Mortie was dumped at the shelter when his owners couldn't afford to pay for surgery he desperately needs. It is an easily correctible condition via minor surgery, but after being abandoned by his owners, the shelter considered him unadoptable because of the eye lid problem, and he found himself on the euthanasia list. That's when we stepped in to give Mortie a second chance.
Mortie has entropion, a surgically correctible condition where the eye lashes grow inward into the eye and cause a lot of irritation and scarring if left untreated. It has been left untreated by uncaring owners for a very long time before they finally gave him over to the shelter, so he has been suffering for a while. It also has affected his vision, since there is so much mucous all the time, so he doesn't see well. And it's painful to keep his eyes open anyway.
Poor guy is in pain and cannot see well because of the constant mucous and irritation in his eyes. Despite this, he is the sweetest, cutest, goofiest dog with an amazing personality and temperament. He is quite large, with a big head, and acts like a cute little puppy who tries to crawl in your lap!! Not!! He weighs probably about 75 pounds or so. Very stocky. He loves loves loves people and he gets along great with kids, cats and other dogs. He is such a gem of a dog!
Please help us to give him the surgery he needs. We do not have the extra funds to cover this right now, as we spend on average, $2000 or more a month to just pay boarding and routine vet care (including spay/neuters) on the dogs we take in who are healthy. So when we get one needing extra care, we really need the help of our dog loving friends to cover it.
Thank you SO much for donating to Mortie's eye surgery fund! The sooner we raise the money, the sooner he can be pain free and see better too!
