**Update**Oct 21, 2006...Jamie is doing much better in terms of gaining weight and looking healthier! She still has chronic nosebleeds, but it's down to once a week. The vet ran another blood panel to check for other bleeding disorders, just to be sure it is from the tick fever only, and her blood panel came back normal. In fact, the anemia problem improved significantly since last test, and her white blood cell count is back down to normal. So she is definitely getting healthier!! She has gained at least 8 pounds at this point, and has really filled out to a point where she doesn't look so skinny and you can't see her ribs or hip bones sticking out anymore!! Her personality has changed too - she is MUCH more outgoing, friendly, happy and active.
We tried her in a foster home the other day, but she ended up having a terrible nosebleed that night and the next morning, and so she has returned to boarding at the vets again. We're hoping to find her a foster who won't mind coping with the occasional nosebleed...the vet thinks it will subside more and more each week she is on the medication for tick fever.
Jamie says THANKS for all the donations and well wishes!!!
**UPDATE: Thurs, Oct 12...Jamie has been at the vets for the past week due to complications of tick fever, involving uncontrolled nosebleeds. She is already anemic and any bloodloss is a risky problem, so they wanted to monitor her there. She has had three very profuse nose bleeds that needed to be controlled with an injection to help stop the bleeding and clot the blood. She's on medication for that and being watched at the vets. Our vet costs are going up, so unfortunately I had to update our goal! She is expected to recover and they cannot find any other reason for the nose bleeding other than the tick fever. Once that is under control, she should turn around. Her appetite and attitude are good, so that's a very positive sign! She loves attention and sits in your lap to give kisses. She would love to go back to a foster home just as soon as the nose bleeds are better. Thank you again for helping Jamie by donating to her fund!!

**UPDATE: Tues, Oct 3rd, 5pm...WOW, I can't believe what an amazing response to this page for Jamie!! Thank you SO much everyone who donated - I was surprised by how much has poured in and how quickly it came!! You're such a wonderful group of people!
Jamie tested positive for Tick Fever and will start the medicine for that today. The rest of the bloodwork we are still waiting on yet. She had a bloody nose today after sneezing, and hoping that's just from a broken vessel after the sneeze, or maybe from the tick fever. Hopefully she hasn't had the tick fever long term and we've caught it early enough. In any case, she is in good hands now and getting everything she needs. Jamie is eating well and likes canned dog food best! We're giving her puppy food to help build her up and also vitamins. She's a sweet girl and is doing great so far! She doesn't act like a sick dog - still has energy and wags her tail, so I'm very hopeful she will bounce back quickly and gain weight!

Today we had someone find an extremely emaciated female Dalmatian (we named Jamie) abandoned in the desert, wandering. She was dehydrated, weak and scraped up. Our rescue funds are nonexistant at this point (we've helped over 100 dogs this year alone!) and we've had to put our intakes on hold until our December fundraiser, but.....I couldn't say no to this poor dog in need.
We need approximately $500 for her ongoing vet care, boarding and rehabilitation. We will need to do extensive bloodwork to rule out diseases (other than just starvation) and to test her organ function after this level of emaciation. We expect her to be fine, but we want to give her the absolute best, most thorough vet care to help her recover. Can you help? Every little bit will help.
Jamie is a sweet sweet girl, and she's young, so her chances of full recovery are excellent. We will be testing to be sure she doesn't have any underlying diseases causing her weight loss, such as valley fever or tick fever. Jamie likes other dogs, cats and is very friendly. She was scared and disoriented when we first took her in, and was also extremely dehydrated. She spent the day at the vets receiving IV fluids and is doing very well tonight resting at a volunteer's home.
Please give what you can and help us help her get well and find a new home where she will be cherished and loved and well cared for the rest of a long life ahead of her!
Thank you for your support!!
Sincerely,
Lisa Maturo, Director
