**UPDATE**5-29-07..... Reggie is doing very well in recovery. We decided to pay extra to board him there, since a foster home has not been found yet and we wanted to be sure his post surgery re-hab is carefully done.
Until a foster is found, he will be boarded at the vet's office and cared for there. This of course will cost more, but we don't want to risk his chances of healing and getting the best care. He needs to go to a foster home willing to crate him and keep him resting and quiet, and also with an e-collar on. Later there will be some physical therapy involved. He needs to visit the vet in N Scottsdale regularly, so trips there will be necessary for the foster.
We have increased our goal to raise the funds for Reggie's after care and boarding at the vets. It will cost $20 a day.
Thanks so much to all who contributed thus far to his surgery!!! What a wonderful group of dog lovers you all are!!!
Take care,
Lisa
**UPDATE**5-23-07.......Reggie is doing just great, came throught he surgery well and everything went perfectly! It was a very long surgery. He's resting and recovering today, and will stay at the vet's for the next few days to be sure he's comfortable in recovery. We're still looking for his forever home or a foster home! He's a cutie and has so much love to give.....
**UPDATE**5-22-07.......WOW, we made the goal!!!!! Dog lovers are AMAZING!! You always come through. THANK YOU SO MUCH on behalf of Reggie. He is so deserving and I knew we could count on our email networking out there to come together and give him that second chance. I reserved a spot today, in the chance that we'd pull it off and raise the funds, so guess what??? He's in surgery right now.
It's 10am and they called to tell me he's doing really well, and that the surgery is going great so far. They're working on his hip right now and then will move on to his broken leg. They said it will take several hours, that a lot needs to be done, but that it's going well so far. They will update me later today and I'll post on here. He wil also get neutered at the same time so he'll be all ready to go to a new home after his rehabilitation time, post surgery.
THANK YOU AGAIN TO ALL WHO DONATED and helped make this happen for Reggie. I wish you could all meet him and see just what a sweetie he is, and you'd feel so great about what you've done for him. His life is taking a big turn for the better and he'll be a normal, happy, healthy puppy who can run and play soon, thanks to your generosity...
Sincerely,
Lisa Maturo, LUCKY DOG RESCUE www.luckydogrescue.org

REGGIE'S STORY......
Reggie was saved from being euthanized at the shelter. He was there as a stray, and had a very bad limp. It's possible he was either hit by a car as a young puppy or abused by someone who kicked or beat him. They were not going to put him up for adoption because of his obvious hind leg injury. We saved him before he got euthanized. He's still just a pup, at about 6 months old. He's so cute, and so very affectionate and sweet. We wanted to give Reggie a second chance!!!
Reggie has a severe limp and has a hard time walking. We took him to our vets and the x-rays showed an old injury where his hind leg was broken and never treated, and his hips were dislocated. We took him to see an orthopedic surgeon who said Reggie needs a Femoral Head Ostectomy and also a repair of his broken leg that never healed correctly. Those are two major things the orthopedic surgeon will do at the same time. The good thing is that he is expected to walk again and be just like new after the surgery!!
Reggie is such a sweet puppy and he deserves to be able to run and play like other pups. He has an exceptional personality and will easily find a new home. He loves other people and gets along great with other dogs. After all he's been through and with having such a hard time walking, he's still such a happy, sweet boy.
Please help if you can....the sooner we raise the funds, the sooner we can schedule his surgery. Right now we have poor Reggie in a boarding kennel awaiting possible surgery and hopefully a foster home will also be found.
Please check back on this page for updates, and please send to your friends to help us raise the funds for Reggie!!
Thanks for caring and helping Reggie!!
