Roxie the Dalmatian is a fortunate graduate of Lucky Dog Rescue who, at this time last year was on the euthanasia list at the county because she had a SEVERE foot injury that was raw and open when we saw her. We don’t know what caused her injury, it’s still a mystery, but the doctor who did surgery on her foot speculated that it was run over by a car and debraded to the bone and had been left that way for a long time. She was going to be euthanized because the damage to her foot was so severe. Despite the obvious pain of an open wound, she was the sweetest, most loving and gentle dog when we met her at the shelter. She was rescued by Lucky Dog Rescue and was fortunate enough to have surgery to close her foot wound and to try to repair its function.
Roxie had a long slow recovery from her foot injuries in foster care, which, over time, we realized was going to take much more time to heal. Despite her slow recovery and painful foot, she got a new forever mom, Lisa, to give her the happy life she deserved and who didn’t care if Roxie wasn’t perfect!. She has been with her new mom for almost nine months and sadly, she has continued to struggle with pain and loss of mobility in her foot while her mom has done everything possible to alleviate her suffering. After much soul searching and many medical opinions, it has been determined that Roxie needs to have her limb amputated to be completely pain free and live as much a normal life as possible, which she certainly deserves. But this is an extraordinary expense for her new family on top of the post-operative expenses incurred during the last year.
Please consider helping if you can, Roxie’s surgery was today because every day waiting was another day living in pain and having to wear a basket muzzle, which no dog should have to do. Lisa and Roxie the Dalmatian thank you from the bottom of their spotted hearts for helping Roxie leave her painful past behind.
