Recently we rescued several dogs with health issues, who would have otherwise been euthanized at the county shelter.
All except Gooey the puppy are in need of foster homes as well. If you are unable to foster, please consider sponsoring a dog's vet bill to help three sweet wrinkly shar pei dogs become adoptable and ready for their new forever homes.
Here's the story on them..
Gooey is a 5 month old shar pei puppy rescued a week or so ago from the euthanasia list. She has demodex mange and is undergoing vet treatment to become beautiful and well again. She's an adorable wrinkly puppy and has the sweetest temperament. Her vet care needs include skin scraping diagnostics, several blood panels, antibiotics, demodex treatment, medicated shampoos and ongoing maintenance care for a few months until the demodex is fully treated.
Stevie is another young shar pei pup, just under a year old, and was rescued from Yuma Humane Society this past Friday. He has a very painful problem with both eyes where he cannot open them at the moment. He has something called "cherry eye" in both eyes and possibly entropion, the condition where the eye lashes grow inward and scratch the cornea. It's not comfortable, and he is currently blind. With surgery he will see again and hopefully there will be no damage to his eyes from being left in this condition for God knows how long, before he was rescued. This one is urgent and we are trying to get him in for the surgery right away. Despite being obviously uncomfortable, Stevie is affectionate and sweet, gives kisses to you (when he feels your face up to his) and he rolls over to get belly rubs. He's a very very sweet dog! Stevie's surgery may include removal of two cherry eye, and possibly entropion surgery. His vet care will be the most expensive, estimated at about $500.
Arnold is another (you guessed it) shar pei, about a year or so old. He was on the e-list due to his skin condition, which may be demodex mange. We are picking him up from the shelter tomorrow and he will go into our vet's isolation kennel until we determine what kind of skin problem he suffers from. Arnold is very depressed at the moment, but we hope he will perk up soon. He will need blood panels, skin scraping and posslble demodex treatment, depending on the diagnosis of the skin condition.
