DeJesus
I love you for coming to this page whether or not you make a donation. I wanted the space to express my passion for the HD cause. As many of you know my dad has been very ill in the past year and my sister and I have been in and out of the hospital with him. We’re coming to terms of the inevitable and I wanted an opportunity to remember the person my dad is despite where HD has taken him.
He raised me since the age of 2, the only dad I know and he loved accepted me as his own. In our house the word “step” when referring to our relationship was never used. The only time we used the word “step” was when referring to stairs. My dad was a provider, a hard-working, family-oriented, humble, funny, healthy great man- and though I miss who he was- our battle with HD is far from over.
He is 1 of 5 of 7 siblings suffering from HD. Children of HD have a 50% chance of developing the disease and if affected, our children also have a 50% chance of inheriting the mutated gene. You can imagine how important this means to my cousins, sister and I. Plagued with this hereditary nightmare we want to help make a difference and are asking for your help.
No matter how large or small your donation, every little bit helps and counts. All donations will go straight to HDSA (Huntington Disease Society of America) to help fund research, education, studies, and uniting families of HD for additional moral support. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. In the name of our fathers & aunt, (Teo, Mickey, Tono, Angel & Gagui –and Elsa who deals with it every day) cousins and siblings, in memory of our grandmother and in fear of what the future holds for us and our children; on behalf of my cousins, sister and myself I ask you to please donate what you can and help us to hopefully one day find a cure for HD. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
