UPDATE:
The Sierra Cycle Challenge was a HUGE success! The ride was amazing, not only for the scenery and the challenge, but the camaraderie of a GREAT group of people. The 17 riders together raised OVER FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS for Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to everyone who helped make that possible! You all definitely rose to the challenge.
Kathy Copeland *did* shave her head, as promised, and you can see it here as reported in The Sheet
If you'd like to see photos of the ride, you can see some (we ran out of memory before the end, though!) here on my Picasa Web Album.

Thanks everyone for all the support. I have increased my fundraising target twice and you guys have really come through. Let's not stop here! If the entire Sierra Cycle Challenge event cain raise $30,000, Kathy Copeland, the director, will shave her head. If I can raise $4,000, I will shave my head! I know, no big deal... but really, I will shave off what little hair I have left :)
Saturday, July 24th~Monday, July 26th 2010
This is a ride like no other! Outdoor challenges change lives, and Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra is doing just that through their year-round program of winter and summer sports for athletes with physical and cognitive disabilities. The freedom and exhilaration that is felt after skiing the top of a mountain, cycling over a rugged pass or catching a Sierra trout is unrivaled!
I need your help! The funds that I raise for The Sierra Cycle Challenge go directly toward supporting students with individualized instruction and adaptive equipment, so they can enjoy the same sports that you do. Your donations will allow an autistic student to take her first runs at Mammoth Mountain or a Wounded Warrior to remember that life is still worth living.
My Goal: Raise $3,000 Please help me reach my goal with a tax-deductible donation to Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra. I’ll be climbing my way through the Eastern Sierra for three days and thinking gratefully of all my supporters along the way!
Day One: Mammoth Lakes to Benton Hot Springs: 48 miles, 1,500 ft. elevation gain!
Day Two: Benton Hot Springs to Grant Lake: 48.5 miles, 3,600 ft. elevation gain!
Day Three: Grant Lake to Mammoth Lakes: 35.6 miles, 2,900 ft. elevation gain!
